responsive

Smart phones, tablets, laptops, and massive wide-screen monitors — this is a huge variation in screen size for web designers! It’s about the difference between 320px across and 1900+px. It’s a relatively new challenge and one that’s not going anywhere.

Two solutions have come of it: mobile design and responsive design.

Mobile design is a site designed specifically for mobile devices – an example is BestBuy’s mobile site. It has a limited interface that funnels users right to the good stuff: searching and purchasing.

On the other hand, responsive design allows for variations in screen size, but provides just about the same content.  So, a website on an iPhone will look like and load similar content to that same site on a laptop or desktop computer.
